--- As Barack Obama broadens his outreach to evangelical voters, one of the movement's biggest names, James Dobson, accuses the likely Democratic presidential nominee of distorting the Bible and pushing a "fruitcake interpretation" of the Constitution. The statement was aired on today's broadcast. Go here for more.
--- As towns upriver watched the Mississippi River slowly begin to recede, a few farther south focused on holding on for a few more days — furiously filling sandbags and keeping watch over saturated levees struggling to hold back the flooded river.
--- More than 840 wildfires sparked by an "unprecedented" lightning storm are burning a swath of Northern California, alarming the governor and requiring the help of firefighters from Nevada and Oregon.
--- Divers wriggled into an upside-down ferry Tuesday and found bodies but no survivors three days after the vessel capsized during a powerful typhoon with more than 800 people aboard.
--- A U.S. Supreme Court decision paving the way for a 670-mile federal fence along the U.S. - Mexico border drew swift criticism from environmentalists, who promised to make another legal stand in Texas.
--- The D&M Water Supply Corporation notified several customers Monday morning to boil water prior to consumption, as a result of complications to a well pump. The areas affected include County Roads 717, 723, 724, 725, 735 and 761 and Valley View and Ridgeview Drives.

GONE TOMORROW Want to know how much hair you're losing? Start counting the hairs on your comb, not on your head. In the June issue of Archives of Dermatology , scientists demonstrate that a so-called "60-second hair count" is a simple and reliable away to get a grip on whether you're balding and, if so, how fast. The reality is that hair loss is incredibly common among men and women. Fifty percent of both genders will have hair loss by the age of 50.
**FYI: How to perform the count: Comb your hair for 60 seconds over a pillow or sheet of contrasting color before shampooing. Pull the comb from the back top of the scalp forward to the front of the scalp for 60 seconds.
Repeat the procedure before three consecutive shampooing sessions, always using the same comb. Count and record the number of hairs in the comb and on the pillow or sheet. You find out if your hairloss is growing. Repeat the procedure every month and discuss results with your dermatologist.
*** Do I really want to know this?

Salmonella can ride water into tomatoes - Pick a tomato in the blazing sun and plunge it straight into cold water. If that happened on the way to market, it might be contaminated.
Too big of a temperature difference can make a tomato literally suck water inside the fruit through the scar where its stem used to be. If salmonella happens to be lurking on the skin, that's one way it can penetrate and, if the tomato isn't eaten right away, have time to multiply.
FYI, That doesn't mean you shouldn't wash their tomatoes — they should, just probably not in cold water.
AND... Raw fruits and vegetables are crucial to a healthy diet. But they're also the culprits in a growing list of nasty outbreaks: E. coli in spinach and lettuce. Hepatitis A in green onions. Cyclospora in raspberries. Salmonella in cantaloupe. Shigella in parsley.

Girl Sues Dad For 'Grounding' Her...And She Wins! The Father's Lawyer plans to appeal the ruling. The lawyer for a Quebec man whose daughter took him to court to challenge her father's grounding punishment says that he will appeal a ruling that he had no right to ban his child from a school trip.
Kim Beaudoin, lawyer for the man, told CTV's Canada AM that the father wants to reclaim the parental authority he lost when his daughter took him to court. Beaudoin said, "If she comes back home, the reaction will be every time he gives a punishment, well, you know, I can always bring you to court. That's not the situation you want in your family." Beaudoin said that the father also wants to spare other parents from having to go through a similar situation.
The judge said that banning the girl from the trip was excessive punishment. The father had told the girl at the beginning of the school year that she could go on the trip if her behaviour was good throughout the year.
She's now living with her mom. Good luck mom on discipline!

   8. "And another thing I hate..."
***FYI: Relax and be yourself... unless this is yourself...

Meet Gus The World's Ugliest Dog A Florida dog named Gus captured the hearts and votes of judges tonight at the 20th Annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest held at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma. Rescued from a bad home and now suffering from skin cancer.
'Gus’ story was compelling, but he won based on his looks. A Chinese-Crested, he has no hair, only three legs (one amputated because of the skin tumor) and is missing an eye lost to a tomcat in a cat fight.
Twelve dogs vied for the title of the World’s Ugliest Dog. Entrants came from all over the United States. The contest has four levels of competition. Winners are chosen from both the Pedigree class and the Mutt class.
Please enjoy the videos of the now famous contestants and from past World's Ugliest Dog Contests!

THE AROMA IN THE AIR What if merely waking up and smelling coffee powers up your brain, without ever taking a sip? Most people drink coffee for its taste and its caffeine jolt, but the smell may bring its own benefits. New research is shedding light on how drinking and smelling coffee might affect genes and proteins in the brain.
FYI: Does this mean you could keep a bag of roasted coffee beans near your desk for that four o'clock slump, taking a whiff to perk you up? That remains to be answered.

CYBER-SLACKING It's no secret that people sneak in some personal e-mail and Web surfing when they're supposed to be working. A new study attempts to shatter perceptions that these Web surfers are just slackers trying to avoid work.
In fact, it turns out everyone does it and researchers figure that means management attempts to clamp down on Internet use may be missing the mark. For instance, people may use the Web at work to help balance job and life responsibilities; with the personal matters taken care of from work, they can focus on the task at hand.
**Finally, a study that benefits the common man!
Phoner: Does surfing the net at work help you keep your life in order?

IMPOSSIBLE QUESTION

In Hard Times, the Truck Stop Offers a Place to Pray More than six million souls pass through this quarter-mile strip of all-night waffle houses and gas stations each year. The Rev. Shannon Rust hopes to save at least a few of them. “They all have auto insurance,” he said. “I’m trying to tell them about soul insurance.”
According to the Trucker’s Friend National Truck Stop Directory, last year, more than 230 truck stops and rest areas reported having on-site chapels, on wheels or otherwise, up from about 120 in 2000.
According to the research many truckers feel uprooted by the foreclosure crisis, pained by prices at the pumps and uncertain about the war, the economy and the coming election, they are anxious and searching for a sense of security.
Mr. Rust described a thank-you letter one man sent him recently after they had prayed together for the man’s teenage daughter, who had run away but who then reappeared the next day. “It’s been coming for a while,” Mr. Rust said, abruptly shifting the topic back to the troubled times. He looked at the sign he had placed next to the chapel entrance soon after the Sept. 11 attacks. “In the end, perilous times will come. Are you ready?”

Many Normal-Weight Teens Feel Fat At a time when much of the Western world is focusing on obesity problems, even teens who are at a healthy weight may develop a distorted body image. That’s what German researchers found after surveying nearly 7,000 11- to 17-year-olds, asking them to describe their bodies.
Options included far too thin, a bit too thin, just the right weight, a bit too fat and far too fat. Almost 8 out of ten kids fell into the normal-weight category. However, half the normal-weight girls and a quarter of the normal-weight boys still described themselves as being too fat. When those teens were given quality-of-life and self-esteem tests, normal-weight children who believed they were fat scored as poorly as children who really were obese. And normal-weight children who felt fat actually scored worse on family relationship questions than obese children.
Similar studies in the United States also suggest body image concerns are prevalent among American teens and adolescents. The data suggest that efforts to address unhealthy weight gain and obesity among young people have the potential for “collateral” damage in normal-weight kids.
